Motivation Monday

Today’s distracted puppy could become tomorrow’s therapy dog visiting a nursing home. Today’s nervous dog could become someone’s emotional support companion. Today’s training session could be the first step toward a future service dog changing someone’s life. Never underestimate the power of small moments and consistent work. Big goals are reached one training session at a time.

Body Language Breakdown (Weekly Series)

Body Language Breakdown (Weekly Series)

This week we’re focusing on the overall body. A dog’s full body posture is one of the most reliable indicators of how they are feeling because it combines everything into one picture. A loose, wiggly body with fluid movement often reflects a relaxed, socially open dog. A stiff, frozen, or very still body can indicate uncertainty, high arousal, or that a dog is assessing a situation carefully. A forward weight shift may show interest or confidence, while a backward shift or hesitation can suggest discomfort or a desire to increase distance.

One of the most important things to remember is that behavior happens in sequences. Dogs rarely communicate with just one signal. Instead, their entire body tells a story that we learn to read over time. Next week we’ll continue the series with another key part of canine communication.

Meet Brie, one of our incredible therapy dogs making a difference in some of life’s most difficult moments. Brie is proudly stationed with the Winnebago County Medical Examiner’s Office, where she provides comfort and support to grieving families, investigators, and staff during challenging situations. Her calm presence helps bring a sense of peace when it’s needed most.

Brie has earned her AKC STAR Puppy, CGC, CGCU, and CGCA titles, and she continues to demonstrate the confidence, compassion, and steady temperament that make her an exceptional working dog. We’re incredibly proud of Brie and the meaningful impact she has on her community every single day. Sometimes the most productive thing you can do for your dog is nothing at all. No training pressure, no expectations, and no goals to check off. Just time to exist together in a calm, low stress way. Let your dog decompress, explore at their own pace, or simply rest beside you while the day stays quiet and predictable. These moments matter. They help reset the nervous system, support emotional balance, and build a stronger foundation for the week ahead. Training works best when it is balanced with rest. Give your dog space to recharge today.

Meet Leo 💙 At just 6 months old, Leo is already making an incredible impression. Leo is currently training to become the therapy dog for the Mequon Police Department, and we were honored to attend his official swearing-in ceremony as he began this exciting journey. Since joining the department, Leo has been learning and growing at an incredible pace. He’s excelling in his training just as quickly as he’s growing, and his confidence, eagerness to learn, and wonderful temperament continue to shine with every outing. We have no doubt that Leo will have a lasting impact on the officers, staff, and community he will one day serve. His future is incredibly bright, and we can’t wait to watch him continue to grow into an outstanding therapy dog.
